Srinagar, Oct 16 (NationPress) Authorities in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Thursday the dismantling of a significant drug trafficking operation in the Chadoora region, leading to the recovery of 325 kg of illicit substances.

A statement released by the police indicated, "In our ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes, Budgam Police have escalated their operations against narcotics and seized a substantial amount of illegal substances in the Chadoora area."

Following specific intelligence, the Chadoora police station was alerted about three suspects—Ghulam Rasool Wani, Mohd Altaf Wani, and Gh. Nabi Wani (sons of Ghulam Mohd Wani)—who were reportedly hiding a large stash of a 'charas'-like substance in their home.

Under the oversight of an Executive Magistrate 1st Class, a police team conducted a thorough search of the identified premises. The operation resulted in the recovery of 27 nylon bags filled with a charas-like substance, totaling approximately 325 kg.

The seized contraband was properly secured and recorded as per legal protocols. Consequently, an FIR No. 181/2025 has been filed under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at the Chadoora police station, with further investigations currently in progress.

"Budgam Police reaffirm their steadfast commitment to eliminating the drug crisis in society and call upon the public to stay alert and report any information related to drug trafficking or suspicious behaviors," the statement emphasized.

In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces and police are conducting vigorous anti-terror operations targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, as well as drug traffickers and those involved in hawala money schemes.

Security officials contend that the revenues from these illegal activities ultimately support terrorism in the region.

"The revised approach of the police and security forces aims to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem, rather than only concentrating on armed militants," the officials stated.

While the Army secures the 740-km-long Line of Control (LoC) and the Border Security Force (BSF) protects the 240-km-long International Border in Jammu and Kashmir, local police and other security forces conduct anti-terror operations in the hinterland.

Point of View

I affirm that the relentless efforts of Budgam police in combating drug trafficking reflect a commitment to community safety. The nexus between drug smuggling and terrorism funding poses significant challenges, and it is crucial for citizens to support law enforcement agencies in this endeavor.
