Bengaluru, Sep 29 (NationPress) - Prajwal Revanna, a convict involved in the sex videos and rape case, has filed an appeal against the life sentence imposed by the trial court on Monday. He is a former JD(S) MP and the grandson of H.D. Deve Gowda, a former Prime Minister.

In his legal petition, Revanna claims that the police coerced the victim into lodging a complaint against him.

Revanna is currently serving a life sentence for the repeated rape of a middle-aged housemaid and for recording videos of the assaults. The appeal has been submitted through his lawyer, Basavaraj Sappannavar, and the High Court has yet to schedule a hearing.

He is also facing three additional cases of similar allegations.

In his petition, Revanna points out contradictions between the victim's complaint and her testimony, questioning the validity of evidence, such as stains found on a bed, presented years after the events.

Revanna seeks to have the trial court's decision overturned, arguing that the charges against him are riddled with inconsistencies and procedural errors.

A significant ruling from the Special Court for MPs/MLAs in Bengaluru sentenced Revanna to life imprisonment until death in relation to the rape case.

The case involves an explicit video and the rape of a 47-year-old woman. While announcing the sentence, Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Revanna on August 1.

Convicted for repeated sexual assault and abusing his power, the court mandated an additional fine of Rs 7 lakh to be paid to the victim.

This case revolves around the sexual assault of a woman employed as a maid in a guest house owned by the Revanna family. The victim testified in court that she was raped on two occasions. Revanna has been in custody since May 31, 2024, after returning from Germany, where he had fled following the circulation of the assault videos.

Judge Bhat announced the verdict, convicting Revanna under IPC Section 376 (2) (N) for repeated rape, along with a Rs 5 lakh fine. The court also imposed life imprisonment under IPC Section 376 (2) (k) for exploiting his position of power to commit rape.

The court ordered that the victim receive the Rs 7 lakh fine from Revanna.

Following the conviction, the court recorded Revanna's final remarks.

Revanna has been convicted under various IPC sections: 376 (2) (N) for repeated rape, 376 (2) (K) for rape under the pretext of power, 354 (B) for using force to disrobe a woman, 354 (C) for voyeurism, and IT Act 66 (E) for privacy violations.
