Bengaluru, June 24 (NationPress) Former JD-S MP Prajwal Revanna approached the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, requesting bail while highlighting the delays in the trial process and the evolving circumstances since his detention.

Prajwal is embroiled in serious allegations, including sexual assault, repeated rape, blackmail, and criminal intimidation.

His lawyer, senior advocate Prabhuling Navadgi, argued that given the significant changes since the last bail denial, his client deserves to be released. He asserted that the prolonged duration of the trial is a valid reason for bail consideration.

Additionally, Prabhuling pointed out that the complainant waited four years post-incident to file charges and only accused Prajwal of sexual misconduct during the statement recording.

Conversely, the prosecution contended that the trial delays are not attributable to Prajwal Revanna. They argued that his repeated summons of defense witnesses have contributed to the slow progress of the case.

On May 2, the Karnataka High Court dismissed a petition from Bhavani Revanna (Prajwal’s mother) seeking an order to stay the examination of evidence concerning her son, who is the principal accused in the obscene video scandal.

Bhavani requested a stay on witness examinations by the trial court.

The petitioner's counsel claimed that Prajwal's defense team requires time to review over 2,000 documents related to the case. He also requested a week to secure new legal representation for Prajwal, citing the unavailability of qualified counsel.

However, Special Public Prosecutor Ravivarma Kumar contested this request, asserting that Bhavani is also implicated in the case, and alleged that this was a strategic move to delay witness testimonies.

The SPP further indicated that these petitions are misleading the court and sought permission to initiate contempt proceedings against Bhavani Revanna. Taking all arguments into account, the High Court dismissed her application.

Previously, Prajwal Revanna's counsel informed the Special Court for MLAs/MPs of his intention to withdraw from the case, leading Prajwal to seek time to appoint new legal representation.

The prosecution opposed this, claiming it was a tactic to stall proceedings. In light of these objections, the Special Court mandated that witness statements in the obscene video case commence on May 2.

In response, Bhavani Revanna sought a stay on the Special Court’s actions and requested certified copies of court proceedings. Both requests were denied.

The High Court noted that granting adjournments would undermine the trial court's authority and stated it would not entertain such petitions.

On April 3, the Special Court formally charged Prajwal Revanna with offenses including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and unauthorized sharing of private images, among other allegations.
