How Did President Murmu Honor Exceptional Teachers with National Awards?

New Delhi, Sep 5 (NationPress) On this year’s Teachers’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu honored 45 outstanding educators by presenting them with national awards during a special ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

President Murmu praised the educators for their transformative efforts in classrooms, preparing children to emerge as capable and responsible citizens of the future.

In her address, the President highlighted the critical role of education in our lives and stressed the importance of investing in girls’ education, viewing it as an invaluable contribution to the strengthening of families, societies, and our nation.

The award recipients, comprising 24 male and 21 female teachers from urban centers, towns, and remote villages, were selected through a meticulous three-stage process based on their innovative teaching methods and significant impact on student learning.

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized that education is fundamental to an individual’s dignity and security, akin to basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

“Education empowers individuals. Children from the most disadvantaged backgrounds can achieve remarkable progress through education. Caring and dedicated teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing this potential. The greatest reward for teachers is when their students remember them throughout their lives and contribute positively to their families, communities, and country,” she stated.

The President remarked that shaping students’ character is a teacher’s primary responsibility.

Reflecting on her own teaching experience, she described it as one of the most fulfilling phases of her life, noting that effective teachers work to instill a sense of dignity and security in their students.

“Sensitive, responsible, and principled students who adhere to moral values are far superior to those merely focused on competition and rote learning. A great teacher possesses both emotional intelligence and intellect,” she commented.

The President underscored the critical importance of girls’ education.

“Investing in girls’ education is a crucial step towards building stronger families, societies, and nations. Providing quality education to girls is the most effective avenue for fostering women-led development,” she remarked.

She further added, “While smart blackboards, classrooms, and modern facilities are significant, the essence lies in smart teachers. These educators understand their students' developmental needs and make learning engaging and effective with care and sensitivity. Such teachers equip students to meet societal and national demands.”

On the subject of the National Education Policy (NEP), she expressed that its goal is to position India as a Global Knowledge Superpower.

“To achieve this, our teachers need to be recognized as the best in the world. Our institutions and educators must actively contribute across all three educational sectors: school education, higher education, and skill development,” she concluded.
