Hyderabad, Dec 19 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the paramount importance of honesty and integrity while addressing the Public Service Commissions during a national conference in Telangana on Friday. She asserted that these values must be the top priority in the recruitment process for candidates.
During her inauguration speech, she highlighted that while deficiencies in skills can be remedied through training and various strategies, a lack of integrity poses serious challenges that are often insurmountable.
President Murmu urged aspiring civil servants to be committed to serving the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society. She stated, “Our civil servants must be acutely aware of the needs and aspirations of women, and gender sensitization should be a key focus for the Public Service Commissions.”
She noted that the governance process benefits from the permanent executive, which comprises public servants selected by the Commissions. The integrity, sensitivity, and competence of these officials are crucial for the effective implementation of people-centered policies at both national and state levels.
Furthermore, she encouraged the Commissions to proactively address emerging challenges related to technology, enhance transparency and credibility, and develop teams of civil servants that are competitive on a global scale.
As the fastest-growing major economy, India must establish effective governance systems at every level. “We aim to be the third-largest economy globally while striving for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047,” she stated.
President Murmu expressed her confidence that the Public Service Commissions will diligently fulfill their roles and help cultivate a future-ready cadre of civil servants.
She pointed out that the Constitution dedicates an entire section to Services and Public Service Commissions, underscoring their significance in governance.
“The ideals of social, economic, and political justice, as well as equality of status and opportunity, are vital for the operations of the Public Service Commissions,” she said, referring to the Preamble and the Directive Principles that guide the state towards achieving a welfare-oriented social order.
“The Commissions should not only strive for equality of opportunity but also work towards achieving equality of outcomes. They are pivotal change-agents that foster equality and equity,” she added.
The conference also saw the attendance of Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, UGC Chairman Vineer Joshi, and other dignitaries.
