New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday honored Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 127th birth anniversary, recognizing his significant contributions to India's struggle for freedom and his lasting influence.
In a social media post, President Murmu stated, "On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, celebrated as Parakram Diwas, I offer my humble respects to one of the greatest sons of Bharat Mata."
"Netaji is among the most unwavering and motivating figures in India's freedom movement. His stirring call for liberty ignited the spirits of millions of Indians to participate in the quest for independence," she remarked.
"Netaji's unwavering commitment to securing freedom and his brave leadership of the Azad Hind Fauj will forever motivate future generations of Indians," the President added.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha, is revered as an emblem of bravery and patriotism.
In recognition of his legacy, the Government of India designated his birth anniversary as 'Parakram Diwas' in 2021, a day to celebrate his contributions and encourage citizens, especially the youth, to embody his valor and national pride.
The inaugural Parakram Diwas was observed in 2021 at the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata. The following year, a holographic statue of Netaji was unveiled at India Gate.
Plans are also in motion to establish a National Memorial dedicated to Netaji on the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep.

Bose, the son of a prominent Bengali lawyer, commenced his education at Presidency College in Calcutta (now Kolkata) but was expelled in 1916 for participating in nationalist activities.
He later graduated from Scottish Church College in 1919. After graduation, his parents sent him to the University of Cambridge to prepare for the Indian Civil Service.
