These statements were made during the inauguration of a one-day skill enhancement workshop at the Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, aimed at police officers in the Railway and Coastal Security divisions.
While addressing the officers present, the DGP encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the workshop to enhance railway and coastal security across the state. He underscored the importance of continuously upgrading professional skills and being alert to new challenges.
Khurania remarked that this workshop would significantly boost the operational capabilities of the Railway and Coastal Security units. “The modernization and strengthening of these divisions are among our top priorities. The Odisha Police is focused on developing human resources, embracing advanced technologies, and enhancing operational efficiency,” he stated.
He further noted that the state government is dedicated to transforming the Odisha Police into one of the most advanced and efficient forces in India, providing all necessary support.
In a media interaction, Khurania revealed that the government has allocated Rs 149.95 crore in the budget to reinforce coastal security.
“We have already acquired ten drones for aerial monitoring and employed three fishing trawlers for operational tasks. Plans are in place to induct fast interceptor boats this year to strengthen maritime patrols. Additionally, 140 Special Police Officers have been assigned to fish landing centers to enhance surveillance. A modern Command and Control Centre will soon be established in Bhubaneswar for real-time monitoring of marine vessels, drones, and associated agencies,” he elaborated.
Moreover, he mentioned that efforts are underway to install CCTV surveillance at 32 fishing ports and harbors, and the procurement of new patrol boats for coastal monitoring has commenced.
Regarding the workshop, Khurania shared that top experts from around the nation were invited as resource persons. Senior officials from all railway and marine police stations attended in person, while SPs and other district officers participated virtually.
The workshop aimed at enhancing field officers’ understanding of cyber forensics, general forensics, and the coordination between the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the State Railway Police. It also focused on introducing officers to advanced investigative techniques and the latest tools and technologies accessible at the national level.
