Kolkata, Nov 6 (NationPress) In a bold move against his party leadership, rebel Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir from Bharatpur in the Murshidabad district declared on Thursday his intention to establish a new political party as the West Bengal Assembly polls approach next year.
During a press conference, Kabir stated, "I am no longer a member of Trinamool. I will officially launch a new party by December 20."
He further mentioned that he would take on the role of Chairperson of the new entity.
"If I proceed with forming a party, the Trinamool will soon realize the loss they will incur in Murshidabad district. Without my support, they won’t secure even 10 seats here," he claimed.
The district comprises a total of 22 Assembly constituencies.
Over the past year, Kabir has consistently challenged the Trinamool Congress on multiple fronts.
At a recent event in Bharatpur, he criticized the leadership, asserting, "If the party believes it can do without a rebel like me, I will demonstrate within 48 hours how the political landscape in Murshidabad will shift. We are still hoping for respectful leadership. If you tread on our toes, we know how to retaliate."
Humayun Kabir has often found himself at the center of controversies due to his remarks against the party.
His statements have caused significant embarrassment for senior leaders of the Trinamool Congress.
Recently, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee admonished Kabir in a meeting, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable.
Banerjee conveyed a stern warning to MLA Kabir, stating, "You must adhere to party regulations. If you make comments against the party in public, consequences will follow."
Nevertheless, Kabir remains undeterred in voicing his dissent against the Trinamool Congress.
He has also publicly criticized Behrampore MP Yusuf Pathan.
Previously, Kabir faced multiple reprimands from party leadership and was issued show-cause notices for making statements that were detrimental to the party's image.
Yet, despite these warnings, he continues his outspoken behavior.
