Kolkata, Dec 4 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, the Trinamool Congress representative from the Bharatpur Assembly segment in the minority-heavy Murshidabad district of West Bengal, whose suspension from the party was confirmed on Thursday, is set to resign as an MLA by December 8. He plans to unveil his new political party on December 22.
“I will be stepping down as the MLA of Bharatpur either on Friday or Monday. Following that, I will announce my new political party on December 22. My schedule on December 6 for laying the foundation of the Babri Mosque at Beldanga in Murshidabad district will proceed as planned,” Kabir stated shortly after West Bengal's Municipal Affairs & Urban Development Minister and the Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Firhad Hakim, officially declared Kabir's suspension.
Notably, he asserted that he learned of his suspension through the media, as he had not received any official communication from the party leadership regarding this matter.
“No one from the party has formally informed me. I have yet to receive any written notice about this from anyone within the party. I have much to express and will do so once I officially receive the suspension letter,” Kabir remarked.
Interestingly, the suspension announcement coincided with a planned address by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at an anti-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) rally in Baharampur town, located in Murshidabad district.
Previously, in announcing the decision to suspend Kabir, Firhad Hakim remarked that by publicizing the construction of the Babri Mosque, Kabir aimed to revive the painful memories of the original Babri Mosque in Ayodhya.
“We believe that the BJP has played a role in his recent actions. We also suspect that the BJP is attempting to stir divisive politics by positioning Kabir as a front,” Hakim added.
In the past, Kabir had received several warnings from Trinamool Congress leadership for alleged anti-party conduct and making public statements that caused embarrassment to the party. Ultimately, on Thursday, the Trinamool Congress confirmed his suspension.
