Kolkata, June 13 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress legislative party's disciplinary committee in the West Bengal Assembly has issued a final warning to Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir. This cautionary notice comes in response to his public statements that have repeatedly caused embarrassment for the party's leadership.
Kabir, recognized for his controversial remarks, was summoned by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay within the Assembly premises. Sources from the party indicate that Chattopadhyay personally delivered the warning, indicating it would be regarded as the “last and final warning.”
This disciplinary action follows Kabir’s recent statements that ignited further controversy. Although he did not specify anyone, he insinuated that certain party leaders were secretly communicating with the Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. “The leadership must investigate how many elected officials are frequently in contact with Adhikari,” Kabir remarked, receiving backlash from fellow TMC members who demanded he provide evidence.
This is not the first instance Kabir has faced disapproval from the party. Earlier in March, he received a show-cause notice from the disciplinary committee for similar anti-party comments but was spared from more severe action at that time.
Humayun Kabir has consistently attracted controversy with remarks that have put the Trinamool Congress in a difficult position. Last year, he faced criticism for allegedly stating that Hindus in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district would be “cut and thrown into the Bhagirathi River.” In November, he received another show-cause notice for his critical comments regarding the party.
More recently, during the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kabir raised questions about the party's choice to nominate cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan from the Baharampur constituency, labeling him as an “outsider.”
Despite numerous warnings, Kabir continues to make statements that tarnish the party's reputation, which has tested the leadership's patience.
