Kolkata, Dec 22 (NationPress) Humayun Kabir, the suspended Trinamool Congress member representing the Bharatpur Assembly Constituency in Murshidabad district of West Bengal, officially unveiled his political entity, named the Janata Unnayan Party, on Monday.
Kabir revealed that the title of his new political party was the result of a deliberate decision, as he aimed to avoid both 'Congress' and 'Trinamool' in the party's name.
He stated, "The common citizens of West Bengal will easily connect with our party's name. Our primary focus is on mass development. We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of the people," following his announcement in Mirzapur, Murshidabad.
Interestingly, Kabir previously had ties with both the Congress and the Trinamool Congress, as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
During the 2011 West Bengal Assembly elections, which concluded the 34-year reign of the Left Front in the state and initiated the current rule of the Trinamool Congress, Kabir was elected as a Congress representative.
He later transitioned to the Trinamool Congress after departing from Congress. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he joined the BJP but did not succeed in his candidacy for the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat.
Prior to the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, he returned to the Trinamool Congress and secured a victory from Bharatpur.
This month, he was suspended from the Trinamool Congress, just days ahead of the foundation stone laying for the Babri Mosque in Beldanga, Murshidabad.
On the same day as his party's launch, he introduced candidates for various constituencies in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, including Bhabanipur in South Kolkata, currently represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Kabir himself will contest from two constituencies in Murshidabad: Beldanga and Rejinagar, while Nisha Chatterjee will stand from Bhabanipur.
"We will finalize the number of constituencies in West Bengal where our party will field candidates for the upcoming elections. I reiterate our openness to collaborate with all anti-Trinamool Congress and anti-BJP entities in the state. My goal is to foster greater minority unity," stated Kabir.
He also expressed a preference for the table as his first choice for the party logo, with 'twin rose' as the second option. If neither is available, he will consider a third alternative. The party flag will feature three colors: yellow, green, and white.
