Chandigarh, Sep 26 (NationPress) Criticizing the Opposition for exploiting the flood situation for political gain, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asserted on Friday that the populace will not forgive these insensitive and opportunistic politicians for their betrayal towards the state and its citizens.
Concluding the debate during a special session in the Vidhan Sabha, the Chief Minister remarked, "It is regrettable that instead of offering a healing touch during the floods, these so-called seasoned politicians are spewing venom against the government."
He emphasized that these politicians are merely using this crisis for their own political agendas, which is both unwarranted and undesirable. CM Mann stated, "While the people of our state were scrambling for relief and rehabilitation during the floods, these politicians were desperately seeking media attention."
This special session was called to discuss the state’s rehabilitation post-floods; however, due to the shortsightedness of these leaders, it has devolved into a platform for criticism.
CM Mann expressed, "Punjab is a blessed land capable of rising from challenges, yet such traitors have consistently attempted to undermine it."
He highlighted that natural disasters have bowed to the resilience and determination of the Punjabis.
The Chief Minister pointed out that throughout the nation’s trials, Punjab has always contributed, whether in achieving food self-sufficiency, safeguarding borders, or during the national freedom struggle. However, he lamented that when Punjab encounters difficulties, the Union government becomes insensitive and leaves the state to fend for itself.
He referenced the Dinanagar attack, where Punjab was asked to bear the consequences of the Indian Army's actions to neutralize cross-border terrorism. Calling on all Punjabis to unite during this critical time, he stated, "It is essential to rebuild our state," adding that if necessary, he would not hesitate to protest outside the Prime Minister's residence for Punjab's interests.
CM Mann also declared that he is unafraid of the potential misuse of central agencies to silence democratic voices and will persist in fighting for the state’s rights.
Earlier, Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal proposed a resolution in the two-day special Vidhan Sabha session, demanding a special package of Rs 20,000 crore for families, farmers, and infrastructure restoration affected by the floods.
