Guwahati, Sep 26 (NationPress) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has issued notices to individuals who were either present during the tragic incident or had insight into the circumstances surrounding the death of the beloved singer and cultural figure Zubeen Garg in Singapore.
These individuals are required to appear within 10 days to provide their statements, as stated by a senior official.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), consisting of 10 members and led by Special DGP M.P. Gupta, is overseeing the inquiry.
“The investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death is currently ongoing. Notices have been dispatched to all individuals linked to the events leading to his passing. They must testify before investigators within a span of 10 days,” the senior official confirmed.
Meanwhile, the SIT has continued its search efforts at the home of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival, marking the second consecutive day of raids.
Previously, the residences of Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma and musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami—both of whom were with the singer during the yacht trip in Singapore on September 19 when he tragically drowned—were also examined.
The CID has expanded its investigation to include members of the Assamese community in Singapore who were present on the yacht.
Statements from artists and individuals associated with the state’s cultural scene were recorded at the CID office in Guwahati on Friday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously assured that if the SIT’s investigation does not meet public expectations, the state government would consider transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Additionally, the Assam Police issued a warning against spreading rumors on social media regarding a potential Internet shutdown in the state.
A false message claiming an impending disconnection of internet services across Assam is being circulated by troublemakers. The police urged citizens not to believe or share such misinformation and promised action against those disseminating unverified claims.
The unexpected passing of the 52-year-old artist, who was a cherished cultural icon in Assam, has generated widespread shock and sorrow throughout the region, with calls for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
