Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday, 6 May 2025, commenced a 'Shukrana Yatra' (gratitude pilgrimage) from the sacred precincts of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, expressing devotion to the Almighty for enabling the passage of a landmark anti-sacrilege law. The yatra follows the enactment of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act of 2026, which prescribes harsher punishment for 'beadbi' (sacrilege) cases in Punjab.

What the Shukrana Yatra Signifies

The pilgrimage, which Chief Minister Mann undertook alongside Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, is framed as an act of spiritual gratitude rather than a political event. Mann described himself as a devout and indebted Sikh, saying the yatra was being undertaken to thank Guru Sahib for the opportunity to serve the Sikh community through legislation.
