Tarn Taran (Punjab), Aug 9 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking effort by India to combat the influx of drugs from across the international border, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday inaugurated the ‘Baaj Akh’ anti-drone system.
During a media interaction, Kejriwal remarked that a new chapter has been opened in the fight against drug trafficking. He criticized previous administrations for their collusion with drug smugglers, which allowed this menace to proliferate within the state.
However, Kejriwal emphasized that a robust crackdown has now been initiated against drug-related crimes, leading to the imprisonment of significant offenders.
He noted that drugs have been smuggled into Punjab from across the border, necessitating the launch of this anti-drone system. A total of three anti-drone units have been deployed, with plans for six additional units to ensure Punjab is liberated from this affliction.
Kejriwal announced that the government is strictly enforcing a zero-tolerance stance against drug traffickers, with properties acquired through the illegal drug trade being demolished.
The most infamous drug lord has been apprehended by a diligent administration under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann. The Chief Minister stated that under the “War Against Drugs” (Yudh Nasheyan Virud) initiative, Punjab is now engaged in a decisive battle against cross-border drug smuggling.
“Punjab shares a 553-km border with Pakistan, identified as a critical area for narcotics and arms smuggling.”
Mann revealed that to bolster border security and address the threats posed by drone smuggling, nine anti-drone units are being established along the international border. The Chief Minister stated that ₹51.4 crore is being invested in these units.
He added that while the nation’s armed forces and the BSF have been utilizing such systems, Punjab is the pioneering state in India to implement anti-drone technology at the international border.
Mann concluded that the anti-drone system will effectively counter drug smugglers operating from across the border, highlighting that anti-national elements consistently leverage technology for illicit activities.
