Chandigarh, March 6 (NationPress) The Punjab government on Thursday took decisive action by demolishing numerous illegal properties statewide as part of the Yudh Nashian Virudh Campaign. This significant move delivers a substantial blow to drug traffickers and reinforces the government’s pledge to achieve a drug-free Punjab.
In this extensive operation, the Amritsar Corporation, aided by the Punjab Police, took down two-story houses and shops erected by drug traffickers using JCB machines.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar supervised the operation, sending a clear message against drug trafficking. The properties demolished were owned by two known drug traffickers, Gurmeet Singh and Sandeep Singh, also known as Sonu.
Gurmeet Singh is facing three cases, with 325 grams of smack and 350 grams of heroin confiscated. Sandeep Singh has four cases pending, including three at Sarai Amanat Khan and others involving the Anti-Narcotics Force in Mohali.
In a related crackdown, the Khanna Police, in conjunction with local Municipal Council authorities, demolished six structures in the local meat market.
These properties were constructed through illegal encroachment on Municipal Council land, allegedly funded by drug money. The demolition proceeded without incident, with ample police presence ensuring order and preventing any disturbances.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav spearheaded this operation and mentioned that it was initiated based on reports from the Municipal Council regarding illegal encroachments by six drug peddlers.
She noted that two brothers, Aslam and Sunil, identified as significant drug peddlers in the area, are currently involved in five drug-related cases.
Sunil Baba is in judicial custody, while Aslam remains at large. Other notorious smugglers, including Shindi, Mohendro, Pappu, and Gulshan, are also facing charges related to drug trafficking and illegal liquor operations.
Their illegal properties have been destroyed, and police teams are dedicatedly working to apprehend the fugitives. Additionally, on Wednesday, the Khanna Police froze three properties belonging to drug peddlers in the Payal sub-division, SSP Yadav reported.
