Chandigarh, Aug 31 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing crisis, the government has announced an extension of school holidays until September 3. Punjab's Revenue Minister, Hardeep Singh Mundian, reported that 14,936 individuals have been safely evacuated from areas severely impacted by floods.
Currently, there are 122 relief camps operational, providing shelter to 6,582 affected individuals, with 1,312 villages suffering from the flood's impact. The entire state machinery, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army, and Punjab Police, are diligently working around the clock to protect lives and property.
Providing district-wise details, the Cabinet Minister mentioned that 1,700 people have been rescued in Amritsar district, 25 in Barnala, 1,599 in Fazilka, 3,265 in Ferozepur, 5,456 in Gurdaspur, 1,052 in Hoshiarpur, 362 in Kapurthala, 163 in Mansa, 115 in Moga, 1,139 in Pathankot, and 60 in Tarn Taran district.
Mundian emphasized that the number of relief camps has been increased alongside the ongoing evacuation efforts. Currently, there are 122 relief camps functioning, with a district-wise breakdown showing 16 camps in Amritsar, one in Barnala, seven in Fazilka, eight in Ferozepur, 25 in Gurdaspur, 20 in Hoshiarpur, four in Kapurthala, one in Mansa, five in Moga, 14 in Pathankot, one in Sangrur, and 20 in Patiala.
All Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to guarantee the availability of essential supplies in these camps. Expressing gratitude towards the rescue agencies for their unwavering support during this critical time, the minister noted that currently, six NDRF teams are stationed in Gurdaspur, with one each in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Pathankot, and Amritsar, while two SDRF teams are operational in Kapurthala.
The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force have also been deployed to assist in areas such as Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, and Pathankot, with a BSF team conducting relief work in Gurdaspur and Ferozepur. Punjab Police and the fire brigade are providing support to the administration in the affected regions of Kapurthala and Ferozepur.
Rescue operations include 15 boats in Kapurthala, 12 in Ferozepur, and four in Pathankot, with airlifting operations being executed where necessary.
The Revenue Minister confirmed that 1,312 villages across Punjab have been affected by the floods.
