Chandigarh, September 10 (NationPress) As rainfall and water levels continue to decline, the Punjab government has ramped up its relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction initiatives, allowing families affected by the floods to slowly resume their normal lives.

According to Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, full restoration of road connectivity, electricity, and water supply has been achieved in the flood-impacted villages of the Anandpur Sahib constituency.

Residents of Singhpur-Plassi have started to return from relief camps to their homes.

He mentioned that efforts to restore connectivity to isolated villages such as Harsa Bela, Patti Dulchi, and Bela Shiv Singh are in progress, and plans are underway to replace the wooden bridge at Bela Dhyani with a motorable one.

Measures such as fumigation and the distribution of medicines have been finalized, special vaccination campaigns led by health and animal husbandry teams are in effect, and 10 truckloads of fodder have already been delivered.

A special girdawari (crop loss survey) is being conducted by revenue officials, with compensation to be distributed based on its findings.

Cabinet Ministers Balbir Singh and Lal Chand Kataruchak have provided financial assistance of Rs 51,000 each to 12 affected families in the villages of Baknour, Pamma, Ambi Khattkaran, Kolian Adda, and Anyal in the Bhoa constituency.

During their visit, they engaged with local residents, addressing their concerns, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finding effective solutions.

Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal, while assessing the situation near villages along the Ghaggar river, stated that the government has reinforced river embankments, which have protected surrounding villages and towns from significant damage, despite water levels being above the danger threshold for several days. He confirmed that the government and district administration remain on high alert, ready to implement immediate sandbagging or other necessary interventions as needed.

Officials have been stationed every kilometer along the Ghaggar's embankments to swiftly tackle any issues that arise.

Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, during a meeting at the District Administrative Complex in Jalandhar, instructed revenue officers to verify claims regarding damage to homes caused by rain and floods, ensuring that no affected family is left without compensation. He directed patwaris to conduct thorough door-to-door inspections and emphasized that the government stands steadfastly with every affected family in this crisis.
