Chandigarh, Sep 5 (NationPress) The Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, initiated the dispatch of nine trucks loaded with essential relief materials for those affected by flooding, representing the efforts of the Red Cross Society Punjab.
The shipments are destined for various locations including Ferozepur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Ropar, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, and Jalandhar. This assistance will be distributed through the Red Cross units in each district to support the most vulnerable communities.
The relief supplies encompass family tents, tarpaulins, kitchen sets, blankets, and a total of 7,000 household items including sanitary pads, rations, and soap. Furthermore, the Punjab Red Cross, in partnership with local NGOs, has dispatched 100 tons of animal fodder to assist the affected areas.
During the event, Governor Kataria emphasized the community's moral obligation to aid families impacted by disasters such as floods. He stated that this collaboration between the Red Cross and various organizations fortifies Punjab's tradition of service, cooperation, and human values.
“I recently toured seven districts affected by flooding, gaining firsthand insight into the urgent situation. It is imperative that we unite in support of these families and engage in this noble act of providing relief,” he remarked.
He continued, “The people of Punjab have consistently stood by one another during challenging times. Today, we must again come together to assist the affected individuals so they can resume their normal lives swiftly.”
On the previous day, the Chandigarh Red Cross had already dispatched two truckloads of relief materials to flood victims in Amritsar, including 500 kits of various household items, sanitary pad kits, and 500 units of utensils.
Officials present included Principal Secretary to the Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, Secretary of Punjab Red Cross Society Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, and other representatives from Punjab Raj Bhawan and Red Cross Society Punjab.
