Chandigarh, Oct 10 (NationPress) Malvinder Singh Kang, a Member of Parliament representing the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), visited the family of the Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar on Friday to express his sincere condolences following the officer's tragic demise.
He conveyed his sorrow over the loss of a dedicated officer who ascended from humble beginnings in a Dalit family to a notable position within the Indian Police Service (IPS).
In a statement to the media, Kang remarked, “The circumstances surrounding his death raise significant concerns regarding the system, and my inquiry to the Government of India is: where is this country heading? It is deeply unfortunate that a distinguished IPS officer, who achieved his status through sheer merit and commitment, felt compelled to take his own life.
“The implications of his death are vast, posing critical questions not only for the Haryana BJP government but for the entire system.”
Kang pointed out the systemic issues highlighted by this case and stressed the urgent need for accountability.
“On one side, the Chief Justice of India—part of a Dalit family—is assaulted with a shoe, while on the other, a competent IPS officer from Haryana, who dedicated himself to the nation, faces insurmountable pressure. This situation raises grave concerns about governance, the treatment of Dalits in positions of authority, and the overall functionality of our system.”
The MP called upon both the Haryana government and the Central administration to take immediate, transparent action to deliver justice for the officer and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Kang also pledged his support to the family, assuring them he would advocate for this issue across all relevant platforms.
“It is a sorrowful day for our nation when our officers are not secure even during their service, leading systemic neglect to push them towards extreme actions. The system must embody fairness, justice, and dignity for every individual, regardless of caste or background,” Kang stated.
