Chandigarh, June 3 (NationPress) – In a decisive operation, the Punjab Police have apprehended Gagandeep Singh from Tarn Taran for disseminating critical information regarding military movements during Operation Sindoor, as confirmed by Director General of Police Guarav Yadav on Tuesday.
The suspect maintained contact with Pakistan's ISI and Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla.
Investigations have disclosed that he was involved in sharing classified information, including troop movements and strategic locations, which posed a significant threat to national security, DGP Yadav noted on social media platform X.
Initial inquiries indicated that Singh had been in communication with the Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Chawla for the past five years, who introduced him to operatives of the Pakistani intelligence.
He reportedly received payments from these operatives via Indian channels, according to the DGP.
The police seized a mobile device containing intelligence that Singh transmitted to Pakistan, along with details of over 20 ISI contacts.
“Comprehensive financial and technical investigations are currently being conducted to identify other connections and to understand the full extent of this espionage network,” the DGP added.
An FIR has been filed under the Official Secrets Act at the police station in Tarn Taran, and further investigations are underway.
Previously, Punjab Police had detained two individuals, including a 31-year-old woman, for their alleged involvement in espionage activities related to an official associated with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The arrested individuals were identified as Gazala and Yameen Mohamad, both from Malerkotla in Punjab.
Police teams had confiscated two mobile phones from their possession. Their arrests followed the apprehension of two others, Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih, who were accused of leaking sensitive details and images of military cantonment areas and airbases to Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
DGP Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the arrested individuals were receiving payments through online transactions in exchange for sharing classified information. They had regular communication with their handler and were involved in transferring funds to other local operatives per his directives.
The accused Gazala was arrested for leaking sensitive information regarding Indian Army movements to a handler based in Pakistan.
Based on her disclosures during interrogation, another conduit identified as Yameen Mohamad was also apprehended.
Accused Gazala confessed that she was motivated by financial gain, admitting that the handler had sent her Rs 30,000 in two transactions – Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 – via UPI.
