Chandigarh, December 31 (NationPress) This year, the Defence Services Welfare Department of Punjab has shown unwavering dedication to the well-being of the families of martyred soldiers, ex-servicemen, widows, and disabled veterans.
Numerous initiatives have been launched to enhance welfare measures for the defence community.
Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat shared on Wednesday that the state government has been fulfilling its duty towards the families of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation with deep sensitivity and respect.
He mentioned that in 2025, government jobs were allocated to the next of kin of 10 martyred soldiers under the Honour and Gratitude Policy across various government departments.
Additionally, during the observance of Kargil Day, family members of 65 soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Operation Vijay were honored for their unparalleled bravery and service to the nation.
Bhagat reported that a total of Rs 3.66 crore was disbursed as ex gratia payments to the families of martyred and disabled soldiers this year.
Furthermore, a budget allocation of Rs 63.22 crore has been set aside under various schemes aimed at supporting the families of martyred soldiers, gallantry award recipients, and ex-servicemen.
The Minister stated that pensions for ex-servicemen and widows are now being distributed transparently via the SPARSH portal. To address pension-related concerns, assistance camps were held every 15 days at all District Defence Services Welfare Offices throughout the state.
In a further show of support, Bhagat announced the distribution of electric three-wheel scooters to 10 disabled soldiers, enhancing their mobility and overall quality of life.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister stated that the government “is entirely devoted to the welfare of martyrs’ families and ex-servicemen, with more welfare-focused initiatives to be launched in the near future.”
