Rabri Devi Questions Nitish Kumar's Position on Waqf Bill

Patna, Nov 28 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Rabri Devi, voiced her concerns on Thursday, taking aim at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his unclear stance on the Waqf Board Amendment Bill.

She pointed out that Kumar's indecision indicates an effort to please both factions involved in the debate.

"Nitish Kumar's silence regarding the Waqf bill suggests a potential opposition to it; however, members of his party have shown support, which is inconsistent with the interests of both the JD-U and the Chief Minister of Bihar," Rabri Devi stated.

Furthermore, she expressed her discontent over Kumar's absence at a meeting organized by minorities in Patna to deliberate on the bill, emphasizing that his participation was crucial to tackle the issues raised.

Rabri Devi also took aim at the Central government, claiming that the Waqf Amendment Bill serves as a mechanism to target minority groups, especially Muslims.

She asserted that the proposed legislation is a strategy to appropriate properties belonging to Muslims and reaffirmed her party’s strong opposition to such measures.

Her remarks echo a wider apprehension among certain political factions that the bill may possess discriminatory effects.

In response to the swearing-in ceremony of Hemant Soren, Rabri Devi expressed her approval of the establishment of the INDIA Bloc government in Jharkhand.

"The RJD has enhanced its performance in the state, with a higher number of MLAs obtaining seats in the Jharkhand elections. This achievement stems from the unity among allied parties that collaborated during the elections and garnered public support," she remarked.

On the subject of rebel MLAs within both the RJD and the Congress, Rabri Devi stated that her son, Tejashwi Yadav, who is the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, is actively working to address this issue.

The controversy originated earlier this year when the alliance between JD-U and RJD fell apart, resulting in Nitish Kumar joining forces with the NDA to form a new government.

In the subsequent confidence motion, three RJD MLAs defied the party directive and supported Nitish Kumar.

In reaction, the RJD lodged a formal request with the Assembly Speaker, demanding the disqualification of the rebel MLAs. However, a decision has yet to be reached even after ten months.
