New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) The Congress party's ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar is set to culminate in Patna on Monday with a notable symbolic padyatra (foot march) at Gandhi Maidan, signifying the concluding phase of its initiative to enhance public consciousness about electoral rights.
This padyatra spans approximately four kilometers and is titled 'Gandhi se Ambedkar'. The march will commence from Gandhi Maidan Gate No. 1 at 10 am. Participants will make their way to the Ambedkar statue via SP Verma Road, Dakbangla Chauraha, Kotwali Police Station, Income Tax Golambar, Nehru Path.
An estimated one lakh individuals, including all eminent leaders of the Mahagathbandhan, are anticipated to take part in the padyatra.
The campaign has navigated through 25 districts and covered over 1,300 km, generating momentum in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar. The Opposition INDIA bloc has framed it as a grassroots movement against “vote theft” in the state.
Notable leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, Dipankar Bhattacharya, and Mukesh Sahani are expected to spearhead the final procession from Gandhi Maidan to Ambedkar Park.
Launched on August 17 from Sasaram, the yatra has made its way through Aurangabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra, and Ara before arriving at the state capital.
The Congress’ Voter Adhikar Yatra is organized in response to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative. This yatra, which commenced earlier this month, enjoys support from members of the INDIA bloc and has attracted participation from key opposition figures, including Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, and M.K.Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Throughout the journey, leaders have showcased unity while accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of collusion through the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
