New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) Persistent rainfall since Monday morning has severely hindered traffic flow in Delhi-NCR, especially in Greater Noida, which is extensively affected by waterlogging, reigniting long-standing grievances regarding inadequate drainage systems.
From inundated roads to commuters stranded, Monday morning turned chaotic for the residents, particularly in the Surajpur and Malakpur regions.
Significant portions of Greater Noida, especially near the Surajpur administrative zone and the Gol Chakkar area, were under knee-deep water due to heavy and relentless rain. Waterlogging stretched up to one kilometer along major roads, forcing daily commuters to navigate through still water.
“This is a recurring issue every year after rain, we have to carry our shoes in hand before stepping out. I live in Surajpur and face this same scenario after each rainfall,” lamented Satyaprakash, a local resident, voicing his disappointment over the lack of civic improvements.
The situation worsened near Gol Chakkar, a bustling traffic hub, where the stagnant water obstructed vehicle movement and compelled numerous pedestrians to traverse through flooded paths.
Pappu Kumar, another resident, commented, “Water remains stagnant here constantly; it’s an issue for everyone, including office employees. This is the same plight every year.”
Residents assert that despite numerous complaints lodged with local authorities and repeated promises, no effective solutions have emerged. With each monsoon, the same roads become submerged, causing major disruptions in daily life.
Additionally, the greater Delhi-NCR area also experienced considerable disturbances due to the rain. Traffic slowed significantly on NH-48 between Gurugram and Delhi, with long lines of vehicles observed on the Outer Ring Road towards ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rainfall in the upcoming days, warning of light to moderate showers coupled with thunderstorms across Delhi, parts of Haryana (including Gurugram, Rewari, Palwal, and Sonipat), and regions in western Uttar Pradesh such as Aligarh, Bulandshahr, and Meerut.
