Jaipur, Oct 14 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajasthan Assembly and prominent Congress figure Tika Ram Jully has raised serious concerns regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's handling of the Pachpadra (Balotra) Refinery project, citing significant delays.
According to Jully, the BJP government has betrayed public trust by not commencing production at the refinery, despite commitments made in the 2025-26 state budget.
He stated that the budget clearly indicated production at the Pachpadra (Balotra) Refinery would start by August 2025.
“Yet, not only has production not commenced, but the state government has failed to offer any valid rationale for the delay,” he added.
Jully pointed out that the foundation stone for the refinery was laid back in 2013 during the Congress regime, with an anticipated completion by 2018.
However, the project was stalled after the BJP took over in December 2013.
After five years of stagnation, the BJP resumed work only in late 2018.
When the Congress returned to power in December 2018, the project was accelerated despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with over 80 percent of the work completed by 2023.
Jully also highlighted that the project's estimated cost in 2013 was Rs 37,000 crore, but due to delays and mismanagement by the BJP, it has now ballooned to nearly Rs 1 lakh crore.
He also criticized the BJP for withdrawing the state's share in the project, adding an extra financial burden on Rajasthan.
Notably, in August 2024, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri visited the refinery site but failed to provide a timeline for its inauguration or clarify when production would commence.
Jully questioned, “If the Congress government could complete over 80% of the work during the Covid-19 crisis, why has the BJP's so-called 'double-engine' government been unable to finish the remaining 20% in a span of two years under normal circumstances?”
He concluded by demanding answers from the BJP-led state government, stating, “Was the budget announcement a falsehood? When will the government be held accountable for these delays?” He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers to address this issue during their visits to Rajasthan.
