Jaipur, Feb 20 (NationPress) Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani voiced his frustration in the House on Thursday regarding the misuse of iPads placed on the desks of all MLAs.
Despite numerous reminders, he observed that many legislators were failing to utilize the devices as designed.
He noted that some MLAs were treating the iPads merely as stands, while others placed papers on them, resulting in damage. He urged members to view these devices as essential digital instruments rather than commonplace items.
"These are not stands; they are technological devices intended for digital engagement," he stressed.
Encouraging MLAs to handle iPads with care, akin to personal possessions, he reminded them to adhere to the training protocols for using the devices.
He also instructed them not to lock the devices, avoid connecting mobile phones, and refrain from using them as stands.
"These are fragile and costly items, installed at a significant investment of Rs 16 to 17 crore. Treat them as you would your personal belongings at home," he implored.
Additionally, the Speaker announced that for the first time in the history of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, a 20-hour debate has been planned for the general discussion on the 2025-26 income-expenditure estimates.
In the past, debates lasted three days, followed by a government response on the fourth.
However, following the initiative of the Speaker and suggestions from the Working Advisory Committee, the debate will now extend over four days, with the government's response on the fifth day.
Devnani pointed out that this adjustment was made in response to requests from MLAs of the 16th Legislative Assembly, facilitating greater participation in the discussions.
"This new tradition will provide more MLAs the opportunity to voice their perspectives and contribute to significant discussions," he remarked.
