OP Rajbhar dares Akhilesh Yadav: 'Ayodhya, Zahoorabad are calling'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday, 13 October 2025, launched a pointed attack on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, challenging him to follow through on his political claims in Ayodhya and Zahoorabad, as the war of words between the ruling coalition and the principal Opposition party sharpened ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Rajbhar's Challenge on X
In a strongly worded post on X, Rajbhar invoked the language of political accountability, warning that leaders who issue challenges and retreat are remembered as 'fugitives.' He wrote: 'Respected @yadavakhilesh ji, History bears witness that those who issue a challenge and then flee are called ‘fugitives’! I hope you won’t prove to be a fugitive. Ayodhya and Zahoorabad are calling out to you. Why do you boast and make tall claims, Maharaj?'
Rajbhar also turned the spotlight on recent conduct by Congress leaders, asking Yadav to publicly state his position on an alleged altercation involving former Congress president Ajay Rai and what Rajbhar described as the manhandling of Imran Masood and a separate incident involving Pramod Tiwari. 'Say whether it was right or wrong to lay hands on Imran Masood’s collar. Tell us whether pleading for forgiveness with folded hands to Pramod Tiwari was right or wrong,' Rajbhar said.
The Ayodhya Contest at the Centre
The exchange feeds into a broader political contest over Ayodhya, which has emerged as a symbolic battleground for the 2027 polls. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had earlier thrown down the gauntlet directly to Yadav during an event in Balrampur district, where he was inaugurating and laying foundation stones for 78 developmental projects worth over ₹800 crore. 'Akhilesh ji, I have an offer for you. You also file your nomination from Shri Ayodhya Dham, and I will do the same,' Adityanath said.
Yadav's response was pointed: he argued that a young candidate was sufficient to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ayodhya, referencing the controversy over alleged theft of donations made to the Ram temple. The SP has already named Tej Narayan Pandey as its candidate from Ayodhya.
What Rajbhar Said About 2027
Closing his broadside, Rajbhar issued a direct warning to both the SP and its allies: 'Well, 2027 is coming…This time, both your and your friends’ big talk and arrogance will be reduced to dust. UP’s pride will triumph in 2027, UP will triumph.'
The remarks signal that the ruling alliance — which includes Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) — intends to hold the SP accountable for its alliances and its partners’ conduct on the campaign trail.
Growing Pre-Poll Heat in UP
The latest exchange is part of a pattern of escalating rhetoric between the BJP-led coalition and the SP as both sides attempt to define the narrative well ahead of the 2027 polling cycle. Ayodhya, carrying both religious and electoral symbolism since the consecration of the Ram temple in early 2024, has become a focal point for both parties. Notably, the SP made unexpected gains in the Ayodhya constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, lending political weight to Yadav’s claims in the region.
With nearly two years to go before the Assembly elections, the intensity of the current exchange suggests both parties are preparing for an early and prolonged campaign season.
