Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Monday, 18 May launched a pointed offensive against Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, alleging that the SP government systematically favoured members of the Yadav community in key appointments during its tenure in Uttar Pradesh. Rajbhar anchored his attack on the 2015 Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) controversy, citing a ruling by the Allahabad High Court.

The UPPSC Chairmanship Controversy

Rajbhar alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav-led government appointed a person accused in an attempted murder case to the chairmanship of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, bypassing more than 80 qualified candidates. He claimed the appointment was subsequently struck down by the judiciary.

'That appointment was declared illegal, arbitrary, and a violation of Article 316 of the Constitution by the bench of the Hon'ble Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud of the Allahabad High Court on 14 October 2015,' Rajbhar alleged in a post on X.

The SBSP leader also raised questions over the selection pattern in UPPSC examinations conducted during the SP government, alleging disproportionate outcomes in favour of one community. 'Out of 86, a whopping 56 Yadavs became SDMs,' he alleged, questioning the process that produced those results.

Rajbhar, who has consistently positioned himself as a voice for non-Yadav Other Backward Class (OBC) communities, used the figures to argue that the SP's professed commitment to broader backward-class representation did not translate into practice during its time in power.

Attack on SP's PDA Formula

Rajbhar also took aim at the SP's political outreach framework, mocking it as the 'Party of Dimple and Akhilesh' rather than a genuine coalition of backward communities. He appealed — sarcastically, by his own framing — for Akhilesh Yadav to share the 'secret' that enabled such outcomes, so that candidates from communities including Rajbhar, Chauhan, Nishad, Bind, Kevat, Mallah, Kashyap, Prajapati, Pal, Lohar, Badhai, Kahar, Dhimar, Kushwaha, Maurya, Shakya, Dhobi, and Saini could also access senior administrative posts.

Warning Over Religious Remarks

Rajbhar also criticised what he described as remarks by SP leaders against religious figures, warning of political consequences. 'You and your leaders need to stop abusing sadhus and saints at every opportunity. Otherwise, you people will have to face even greater curses in the future,' he said in his post.

The remarks appear to be a response to statements made by the SP leadership, though the specific trigger was not detailed in Rajbhar's post. The SP had not responded to the allegations at the time of publication.

Political Context

This is not the first time Rajbhar has targeted Akhilesh Yadav on the question of OBC representation. As a BJP ally and minister in the Yogi Adityanath government, Rajbhar has repeatedly sought to consolidate non-Yadav OBC votes — a constituency both the BJP and SP are actively courting ahead of the next state assembly cycle. The attack on the UPPSC record serves a dual purpose: defending the current government's appointments record while questioning the SP's credibility as a backward-class champion. Whether the SP responds substantively to the specific judicial citation will determine how far this exchange travels in the political discourse.
