Patna, March 23 (NationPress) Rajesh Kumar, a prominent Dalit leader from Bihar, who was recently designated as the State Congress President, expressed his heartfelt appreciation on Saturday to the party's central leadership, including the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and the party President, Mallikarjun Kharge.

"I extend my sincere thanks to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for bestowing upon me this important responsibility," he remarked.

Kumar, who has served two terms as the MLA from the Kutumba constituency in Aurangabad district, was recently appointed as the President of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), taking over from Akhilesh Prasad Singh.

Upon his arrival at the party headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram, for the first time following his appointment as the State party President, he appeared quite emotional.

He received a warm welcome from fellow party leaders at the state headquarters.

In his speech, Kumar reiterated the Congress party's dedication to tackling issues that matter to the public as the state gears up for the Assembly elections.

He raised alarms about pressing issues like rampant corruption and unemployment, stating, "Currently, there is no discourse on employment; corruption is widespread in every department here, and we will take these issues to the people."

Kumar also emphasized the necessity of boosting the party's vote percentage, aiming for a 24 percent increase, and highlighted the collective efforts required from Congress leaders, district presidents, and party workers to realize this goal.

"Our vote share is steadily rising, and we need to elevate it by 24 percent; we will strive for this," he affirmed.

Regarding prospective electoral alliances and the number of seats the Congress intends to contest, the new State party President mentioned that such discussions will be held as the election date approaches.

He asserted that the immediate emphasis is on connecting with the public regarding critical issues impacting their daily lives.

Kumar's appointment is viewed as a tactical initiative by the Congress to solidify its foundation among marginalized communities in Bihar, particularly Dalits, Mahadalits, and economically disadvantaged sectors of society in light of the upcoming Assembly elections set for later this year.

His leadership is expected to invigorate the party's endeavors in the state.

The Congress is currently undergoing a transformation in its state leadership in Bihar.

Recently, Krishna Allavaru from Karnataka was appointed as the All India Congress Committee in charge of Bihar, and All India Congress Committee In-charge NSUI, Kanhaiya Kumar, is actively visiting every district to bolster the party at the grassroots level.
