Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, 4 May congratulated voters across West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry for delivering what he described as a "historic mandate" to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the Assembly elections, while crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for the party's sweep across three distinct political geographies.

Rajnath's Message on West Bengal

In a post on X, Singh said the people of West Bengal had chosen "the path of peace, prosperity and progress" by backing the BJP. He called the result "an unprecedented mandate" and a testament to public trust in Modi's "welfare-oriented policies and unwavering commitment to the national interest."

Singh also congratulated BJP National President Nitin Nabin and State President Samik Bhattacharya, while lauding party workers for their "tireless efforts, sacrifices, dedication, and perseverance." He said the victory marked "the beginning of a golden future" for the state and expressed confidence that a BJP double-engine government would usher in a new era of development.

NDA Retains Puducherry

Turning to the Union Territory, Singh thanked voters in Puducherry for giving the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) "yet another mandate to serve." He congratulated Chief Minister N. Rangasamy of the All India N.R. Congress on what he called an "impressive NDA victory" and praised BJP workers for their ground-level efforts that, he said, secured the result.

BJP's Hat-Trick in Assam

Singh reserved special praise for Assam, where the BJP secured a third successive Assembly election win — a feat he described as a "hat-trick of victories." He attributed the outcome to the "strong and capable leadership" of Modi at the Centre and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the state level.

"This mandate demonstrates that under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state has established new benchmarks in development, law and order, and public welfare," Singh said in his X post. He added that Assam was "once again marching towards a strong and prosperous future," crediting the "grassroots connect" of BJP workers for making the victory possible.

Broader Political Significance

The wins across three states and one Union Territory represent a significant consolidation for the BJP-led NDA ahead of future electoral cycles. Notably, the Bengal result — if confirmed — would mark a dramatic turnaround in a state that has historically been dominated by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Assam hat-trick reinforces the BJP's grip on the Northeast, a region the party has systematically expanded into since 2014.
