Mumbai, June 30 (NationPress) Ravindra Chavan, the current working president of the Maharashtra unit of BJP and a former minister, is poised to assume the role of state unit president from Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday.
An executive meeting of the state BJP is scheduled for Tuesday, where Chavan will officially take charge. He is the only candidate who submitted his nomination papers on Monday for the prestigious position of state BJP chief.
Among those present when Chavan filed his nomination papers were Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, state unit chief and revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, election supervisor and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, National General Secretary and State in-charge MLA Arun Singh, and Election Officer MLA Chainsukh Sancheti.
“Starting his political journey as an ordinary worker in the Yuva Morcha, Ravindra Chavan is expected to fulfill the responsibilities of state president with vigor due to his extensive experience in organizational work,” remarked CM Fadnavis.
The Chief Minister further stated: "Chandrashekhar Bawankule has effectively handled the responsibilities of state president for the past three years. The organizational groundwork laid by Bawankule played a pivotal role in the party's significant success during the Assembly elections.”
Post the registration of members in the Bharatiya Janata Party, the election process for the 80 organizational district presidents was concluded. Subsequently, elections for mandal presidents took place. The timeline for the election of the state president, national council, and state council members was announced on June 28. Accordingly, the application process for the state president's post concluded on June 30,” noted the BJP in their release.
Chavan’s appointment arrives as the BJP prepares for upcoming local and civic body elections in Maharashtra. CM Fadnavis, alongside Chavan and various party leaders, has stated that the BJP, along with allies Shiv Sena and NCP, aims to continue their winning streak in the forthcoming local and civic body elections, building on the impressive performance of MahaYuti in last year’s state assembly elections.
Fadnavis, Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar, and other party leaders have declared their commitment to raising the saffron flag at the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, intending to outpace the Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena.
