India Achieves Record LPG Deliveries Amid Global Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia that are causing worries over global energy supply chains, the Centre announced on Sunday that domestic LPG cylinder deliveries are operating without disruption. Over 53.5 lakh cylinders were delivered in just one day, ensuring citizens have access to fuel.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that despite international uncertainties, the domestic LPG supply remains stable despite high demand.
According to official figures, on April 18, 2026, more than 53.5 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were distributed, with no instances of shortages reported at LPG distribution points.
The government has prioritized household supplies to ensure that essential cooking fuel is available during the ongoing crisis.
There has been a significant shift towards digital platforms, with nearly 98 percent of LPG bookings now being made online, and over 93 percent of deliveries verified through Delivery Authentication Codes (DAC) to prevent misuse.
From a supply perspective, the government guarantees 100 percent availability for domestic LPG, PNG, and CNG.
For commercial LPG, priority is given to crucial sectors including hospitals, educational institutions, pharmaceuticals, steel, automobiles, and agriculture.
Moreover, the distribution of 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders for migrant workers has been increased based on consumption trends observed in March.
In an effort to relieve pressure on LPG demand, alternative fuels such as kerosene and coal are being made accessible. The Ministry of Coal has instructed major coal producers, including Coal India and Singareni Collieries, to boost allocations to states for distribution among smaller consumers.
States have been encouraged to streamline new PNG connections for both residential and commercial users.
Commercial LPG supplies have been ramped up to approximately 70 percent of pre-crisis levels, including allocations linked to reforms.
Since mid-March, over 1.67 lakh metric tonnes of commercial LPG has been supplied, translating to more than 88 lakh 19-kg cylinders.
Meanwhile, there has been a considerable increase in demand for auto LPG, with average daily sales from public sector oil marketing companies rising notably in April compared to February.
The government is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies while maintaining stability in domestic markets.
