Bengaluru, Jan 5 (NationPress) As the BJP prepares for a significant protest against the rehabilitation of encroachers whose homes were dismantled at Kogilu Layout in Bengaluru, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has accused BJP leaders of attempting to illegally seize valuable government land in the area.
During a press interaction in Bengaluru on Monday, Minister Gowda, representing the Byatarayanapura Assembly constituency where Kogilu Layout is situated, remarked, “It is a fact that these residential structures were built unlawfully. However, the humanitarian aspect cannot be overlooked as these residents are economically disadvantaged.”
“The BJP intertwines politics with every issue. I choose not to politicize this matter. Those who have been affiliated with the BJP in the past and those currently in the party are equally to blame for these illegal constructions. If I mention this, it might lead to political ramifications. Let the police conduct an investigation,” he added.
“Individuals who orchestrated a calculated scheme to take over government property must face consequences. This is not in the public's interest, nor is it merely a political issue,” he asserted.
“The removal of encroachments was unavoidable. We intend to offer housing solutions through government initiatives. A survey will be conducted to identify local residents from Karnataka, ensuring they receive homes,” he explained.
“This land is not under the jurisdiction of the Revenue Department; it actually belongs to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Illegal dwellings were built on this property. The BBMP, BDA, and Revenue departments have been systematically removing encroachments as per established protocols. Encroachments at Kogilu Layout were similarly addressed,” he stated.
“This is a procedure that occurs regularly. Every Saturday, the Revenue Department removes encroachments,” he continued.
“Speculations are rampant surrounding every issue. Those in positions of responsibility, whether in the ruling party or the opposition, should refrain from making statements based on hearsay. The police should investigate this matter based on factual evidence, including claims about the involvement of individuals from outside the state or country,” Minister Gowda emphasized.
“Should illegal immigrants be discovered, there are laws in place and directives from the Centre that need to be followed,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the government has implemented stringent security measures at the Kogilu Layout demolition site in anticipation of the BJP protest, deploying over 1,000 police personnel and several platoons from the Karnataka State Reserve Police.
Numerous BJP MLAs and MPs from Bengaluru are taking part in the protest.
