New Delhi, July 30 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP representing Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, called for the renaming of the New Delhi railway station in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, suggesting it be named after the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, in honor of his 350th martyrdom anniversary.
During his address, Kang emphasized that Guru Tegh Bahadur exemplifies religious harmony and humanity for both the nation and the globe.
He noted that the Guru stood as a protector for individuals from various regions, including Kashmir.
Kang explained that when the people of Kashmir sought his help to defend their religious freedom, Guru Tegh Bahadur embarked on a journey from Sri Anandpur Sahib, ultimately achieving martyrdom at Chandni Chowk in Delhi after a prolonged struggle.
"Thus, the Union government should rename the New Delhi railway station to honor Guru Tegh Bahadur, the champion of religious freedom and interfaith harmony, given its proximity to his martyrdom site. This action would resonate a significant message globally," he stated.
Kang mentioned that the AAP government, led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is set to organize a state-level program to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
He expressed hope that the central government would host similar events.
However, Kang urged that on this momentous occasion, the Union government should not only focus on event organization but also implement his proposal, allowing visitors at the New Delhi railway station to learn about Guru Tegh Bahadur's sacrifices and martyrdom.
The Punjab government plans to celebrate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur with a week-long event in Anandpur Sahib from November 19 to 25, expecting to attract millions of devotees from across India and abroad.
