Chennai, Jan 18 (NationPress) As the nation prepares for the upcoming Republic Day festivities, Chennai International Airport has implemented a rigorous multi-layered security system. This enhanced security protocol, which was activated at midnight, will remain in place until midnight on January 30, according to airport officials.

In anticipation of the celebrations, Chennai Airport has upgraded its security measures to a five-tier system, which may escalate to a maximum seven-tier approach during the busy period from January 24 to January 26.

This extensive security initiative involves collaboration among various agencies.

All vehicles approaching the airport are being halted at the main entrance for inspection. Any vehicles deemed suspicious undergo thorough checks with the support of sniffer dogs, while bomb disposal teams are utilizing metal detectors and other specialized equipment for scans.

Armed police personnel are on constant watch throughout the airport premises.

Special attention is being given to the multi-level car parking facility, where vehicles parked for long durations are meticulously examined by security experts.

Moreover, commando units of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with sniffer dogs, are conducting thorough inspections in all sensitive zones, including terminal buildings and the aircraft apron.

Passenger screening measures have also been significantly tightened. In addition to standard security checks, secondary screenings are being conducted at boarding gates.

Hand baggage is undergoing detailed examinations, with restrictions imposed on carrying liquids, pickles, jams, and oil bottles in cabin luggage.

Cargo and baggage handling areas are under enhanced surveillance, with consignments undergoing numerous checks before being loaded onto aircraft.

Security at fuel stations has also been strengthened, featuring additional CCTV cameras monitored continuously from the airport's security control room.

Due to these enhanced checks, passengers are advised to arrive well in advance. Domestic travelers should arrive at least one and a half hours prior to departure, while international passengers are urged to arrive three and a half hours before their scheduled flights.

Airport officials assure passengers that despite the stringent security measures, all flight operations are continuing as planned. Travelers are encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to the revised reporting guidelines to ensure a seamless and secure journey.
