New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, expressed his delight on Sunday regarding the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by the public at the Third International Kite Festival organized by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) at the scenic Baansera grasslands near the Yamuna.
His happiness was further elevated by the knowledge that both the venue and the event were conceived by him.
In a post on the social media platform X, the L-G remarked, "The International Kite Festival, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at DDA's Baansera on January 16, is quickly becoming a standout event on the capital's calendar of activities."
"On the inaugural day, there were 3,000 attendees, followed by 9,000 on the second day, and over 15,000 by 4 p.m. today. The concurrent 11th International Dance and Music Festival, also hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at the same venue, is receiving a similarly enthusiastic reception," he noted.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah officially opened the three-day International Kite Festival last Friday.
DDA Vice-Chairman N. Saravana Kumar mentioned that the inauguration ceremony was held at Birsa Munda Chowk in Baansera.
Earlier, the DDA had welcomed citizens to explore the rejuvenated grasslands on the Yamuna floodplains at Baansera, which were opened to the public in August 2024.
On the eve of the festival, the L-G shared a short video on X that showcased the transformation of the area, captioning it, "Baansera -- From Degradation to Restoration as a Green Oasis."
"Motivated by PM Narendra Modi Ji's ambitious vision of restoring 2.6 crore hectares of degraded land nationwide by 2030, we embarked on this journey in Delhi on May 28, 2022, just after I assumed office as L-G," he added.
While visiting a heavily degraded stretch along the Yamuna, opposite Sarai Kale Khan on the Ring Road, the concept of Baansera was born. This project not only involved restoration but also reclamation and transformation within just 18 months, thanks to the diligent efforts of the Delhi Development Authority @official_dda," L-G Saxena stated in a post on X.
Describing the DDA as the guardian of the Yamuna floodplains in Delhi, the L-G stated, "Today, with approximately 30,000 bamboo trees towering over 30 feet, alongside other native trees and a lush landscape adorned with grass, flowers, and water bodies, Baansera has become a unique recreational haven and an ecological marvel in Delhi."
