New Delhi, Aug 29 (NationPress) Delhi's Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena has extended an invitation to the public to explore the revitalized grasslands located on the Yamuna floodplains at Baansera, situated near Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. He reminisced about the three-year journey dedicated to nurturing this ecological wonder.
In a post shared on the social media platform X, the L-G commended the efforts of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials. He included a brief video showcasing the remarkable transformation of the area, captioning it as "Baansera – From Degradation to Restoration as a Green Oasis".
He expressed, "Inspired by PM @narendramodi Ji's ambitious vision to restore 2.6 crore hectares of the country's degraded land by 2030, we initiated a small step in Delhi on May 28, 2022, shortly after I assumed the role of L-G."
"During my visit to a severely degraded and polluted area along the Yamuna, directly opposite Sarai Kale Khan on the Ring Road, the idea of Baansera - home to bamboos - was born. This was not merely about restoration; it involved reclamation and transformation within a span of just 18 months, owing to the dedicated efforts of the Delhi Development Authority @official_dda," he further elaborated in his post on X.
Calling the DDA the guardian of the Yamuna floodplains in Delhi, L-G Saxena stated, "Currently, around 30,000 bamboo trees towering over 30 feet, along with other native trees and a lush landscape filled with green grass, flowers, and water bodies, have made Baansera a distinctive recreational destination and an ecological marvel in Delhi."
He continued, "This small step was a giant leap towards enhancing Delhi's biodiversity. Baansera has now become fertile ground for the renowned Lakadong Turmeric from Meghalaya and blooming tulips."
"Once a foul-smelling expanse buried under tons of garbage, construction debris, and severe encroachment, Baansera now stands as an oasis with bamboo plants that produce 30 percent more oxygen than other trees, contributing to soil restoration," he asserted.
He mentioned that the newly developed water bodies, rolling lawns, and recreational amenities such as a restaurant, a musical fountain, walking paths, and a children's play area now invite visitors to Baansera.
"The park is now a venue for social and cultural events including a Kite Festival, yoga sessions, and musical evenings. Baansera symbolizes the astounding rejuvenation of the Yamuna floodplain, marked by improved soil health and a richer landscape, reaffirming our belief that ecosystems can be revitalized through gentle natural processes. I encourage all fellow Delhi residents to visit Baansera park," the L-G concluded.
