Resolution of Mewar Coronation Dispute: City Palace Reopens in Udaipur After Four Days

Jaipur, Nov 28 (NationPress) The prolonged conflict surrounding the coronation traditions of Udaipur's former royal family reached a conclusion on Thursday evening, with the historic gates of the City Palace reopening at 6:30 PM after being shut for four days.
Lakshyaraj Singh, the cousin of Nathdwara MLA and newly recognized Mewar family member Vishvaraj Singh, took the initiative to unlock the gates. While addressing the gathered crowd, he expressed his appreciation, stating, “I want to thank the government, the people of Udaipur, and the administration. An atmosphere of unity has been restored in the city.”
This closure had led to considerable inconvenience, with tourists being turned away and local businesses witnessing a decline in sales. With the gates now open, tourist activities are anticipated to pick up. Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal also issued a directive lifting Section 163, which had been enforced in the City Palace area.
The dispute originated from the coronation ceremony of Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, which took place on November 25 in Chittorgarh, where he was recognized as the 77th Diwan of Eklingji, adhering to long-established customs.
During the post-coronation rituals, Vishvaraj Singh attempted to conduct Dhuni Darshan at the City Palace in Udaipur but found the gates closed. This resulted in a tense confrontation linked to a property dispute within the royal family. The situation escalated to stone-throwing from both factions, leading Vishvaraj Singh to depart and instruct his supporters to disperse.
By Wednesday, Vishvaraj Singh succeeded in offering prayers during Dhuni Darshan after being granted partial access. The situation finally returned to normal on Thursday evening, signaling the conclusion of the dispute with the complete reopening of the City Palace gates.
