Emotional Moments as Kejriwal and Sisodia Cleared in Liquor Policy Case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) The release of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his close associate, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, in the liquor policy case marks an extraordinary moment for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Both founding figures, who had endured incarceration, were finally exonerated, igniting a wave of emotions. Kejriwal was visibly moved as he addressed the media post-relief, expressing his feelings candidly.
The significant relief for AAP's national convenor and Sisodia was pronounced by the Rouse Avenue Court, which determined that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had failed to produce adequate evidence to support any criminal allegations, including criminal intent.
Following the court's dismissal of the CBI's charge framing request, Kejriwal proclaimed, “Satyamev Jayate,” reinforcing his faith in the judicial system of the nation.
What captured public attention was Kejriwal's emotional response, as he shed tears while celebrating the court's ruling regarding the excise policy scandal, wherein his administration faced accusations of misconduct.
As the first chief minister to face arrest, he recalled the harrowing experience of being taken from his residence and imprisoned, stating, “Our five premier leaders were jailed to dismantle the party. A sitting Chief Minister was pulled from his home and confined for six months; Sisodia was incarcerated for almost two years. The entire case was a fabrication.”
“We faced harassment. Television debates portrayed me as corrupt,” he added, his voice quivering with emotion.
Standing beside him, Sisodia offered comfort, embracing Kejriwal amidst the surrounding reporters and lawyers, who encouraged him with words like, “Sambhaliye apne aap ko sir (Be strong sir).”
Upon returning home, Kejriwal was met with another wave of emotions as family members, supporters, and party affiliates celebrated his acquittal.
The atmosphere was jubilant, with his family members and supporters marking the court's decision. Kejriwal shared an affectionate hug with his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, who remarked, “Truth has triumphed.”
Numerous AAP leaders hailed the court's decision as a validation, asserting that Kejriwal was wrongfully accused.
Opposition parties also reacted positively to Kejriwal’s acquittal, criticizing the central government for allegedly using investigative agencies to target opposition parties opposed to the BJP ideology.
With the CBI case collapsing, senior AAP leaders expressed strong sentiments. AAP’s Gopal Rai stated that this clearly illustrated the lack of substance in the CBI's case and suggested it was a conspiracy by the Centre to intimidate AAP leaders.
“The agency fabricated a false case against the Delhi government at the behest of the BJP, and Kejriwal’s acquittal clearly exposes their propaganda,” he contended.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, chief of AAP's Delhi unit, stated, “A hardcore honest Chief Minister was wrongfully depicted as corrupt in a fabricated case. Arvind Kejriwal dedicated himself to the welfare of the people, yet he was unjustly confined for two years while the BJP ran smear campaigns to undermine his integrity.”
