This significant event is scheduled to take place in Kovalam on September 18-19.
According to Cherian, invitations were sent to 29 EU countries, resulting in 17 confirmations, with an additional four nations expected to join.
“As it stands, we will have representation from 21 countries, and we are actively working to encourage further participation. We plan to present opportunities for these EU nations to explore potential investments here,” stated Cherian.
The conclave, themed “Blue Tides -- Two Shores, One Vision,” aims to convene policymakers, investors, academics, and innovators from both Europe and India.
Notably, the EU Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Herve Delphin, will also be in attendance, highlighting the growing connections between Europe and Kerala’s maritime industry.
This initiative is a collaborative effort by the Department of Fisheries, the Government of Kerala, the Union Government, and the European Union, taking place at the renowned beach destination of Kovalam.
“Our objective is to outline a strategy for positioning Kerala as a leading blue economy hub, leveraging EU expertise in marine innovation alongside the state’s extensive coastline and rich maritime history,” Cherian explained.
Recently, Cherian visited France to garner support for this prominent event.
Countries that have confirmed their participation include Finland, France, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Denmark, Bulgaria, Austria, Malta, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, and Germany.
In addition to showcasing an array of projects to attract investments and partnerships, the conclave will delve into joint research and development, startup collaborations, labor mobility, and innovative policy-making.
Sessions will feature policy leaders, industry experts, academics, and investors discussing strategies to modernize coastal infrastructure, enhance aquaculture exports, foster local innovation, and unlock sustainable financing.
This conclave arrives at a pivotal moment as Kerala’s seafood exports are experiencing significant growth, following the EU's recent endorsement of 102 new fishery establishments, thereby reinforcing the state’s role as India’s maritime gateway to Europe.
