Hyderabad, March 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, has assured BRS MLAs who shifted their allegiance to the Congress that they need not be concerned as no by-elections will take place. This announcement has sparked significant backlash from the BRS, which claims he has overstepped by making comments on a matter currently before the Supreme Court.

During his speech in the Assembly, the Chief Minister reiterated that by-elections would not occur and reassured the defected MLAs from BRS to Congress that they should not be anxious.

Reddy noted that under the BRS administration, defectors were sworn in as ministers without any by-elections held during the previous government’s term. “How can by-elections be conducted now?” he questioned.

Last year, ten BRS MLAs transitioned to Congress, and the Supreme Court is presently examining petitions for their disqualification.

The Chief Minister further emphasized that Congress is adhering to traditional practices. “We are upholding the customs that were established previously. No member should be concerned; there will be no by-elections in the state. Our priority is not on by-elections but on the state's development,” he added.

His remarks provoked a strong response from the leading opposition party. BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao stated that they would bring this matter to the court’s attention. “Our CM often forgets his role as CM. He enjoys role-playing, most of the time. Today he claimed to be the Supreme Court! He decided to rule on an ongoing case of MLA defections during the assembly session,” KTR posted on ‘X’.

“Parliamentary conventions dictate that one should refrain from commenting on current judicial matters. But once again, this is Revanth Reddy - he thinks he is above all rules. Clearly, he believes he is also above the Hon’ble Supreme Court. BRS will absolutely address how the Chief Minister has disrespected their authority in the assembly. This is not the first instance but a second time following his apology for a previous error. In the meantime, I urge Revanth Reddy to act like a CM. Or at least pretend to care,” the BRS leader added.

BRS leader Harish Rao remarked in the Assembly that the Chief Minister dishonored the Supreme Court by declaring that there would be no by-elections.
