Hyderabad, Oct 30 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for purportedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during his campaign for the bye-election in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.
The BRS accused the Chief Minister of attempting to sway film industry workers by making enticing promises during a meeting held in the area.
A delegation of BRS officials, spearheaded by former minister and prominent BRS MLA Gangula Kamalakar, presented the complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Sudharshan Reddy. The opposition party insisted on the Chief Minister's removal as the star campaigner for the Congress due to the MCC infringement and sought to bar him from any further campaigning.
The party highlighted that the constituency is home to several thousand cine industry workers who represent a crucial demographic of the electorate.
The BRS leaders alerted the Election Commission regarding a recent felicitation event organized by the Association of Cine Workers, during which the Chief Minister allegedly made various promises and assurances that contravene the MCC.
They contended that despite prior notifications and complaints from the party, the Election Commission failed to halt the meeting, thereby enabling a “blatant misuse of official position and state machinery.”
The BRS demanded the initiation of a criminal case against CM Revanth Reddy for violating the MCC and committing electoral offences as per the existing legal provisions.
Additionally, they lodged a separate complaint against Congress candidate Naveen Yadav for his own violations of the MCC, calling for his disqualification.
The BRS claimed that during a public gathering on Wednesday, Naveen Yadav made “threatening, abusive, and intimidating” remarks directed at BRS leaders and workers. They expressed, “The Congress leaders openly declared that opposition leaders would be crushed, driven away, and taught a lesson.”
The BRS demanded that Naveen Yadav be disqualified and prohibited from contesting or campaigning in the by-election, alongside a request for an FIR to be filed against him.
They also appealed to the Election Commission for protection for BRS leaders and workers.
In the meantime, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao commented that after two years in power, the Congress party is finally acknowledging the ground realities.
He reacted to the Chief Minister's promises to film workers and reports of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin being included in the state Cabinet.
“I suppose desperate times necessitate desperate measures. After two years in government, it appears the Congress party is finally awakening to ground realities, promising the moon to cine workers, integrating Azharuddin into the cabinet, and ministers frantically navigating the streets of Hyderabad like never before,” KTR shared on 'X' on Thursday.
“Let me emphasize, when the Congress loses its deposit in the Jubilee Hills bye-election, only then will they commence implementing the six guarantees and 420 promises made in 2023. It’s time to teach Congress and its leadership a lesson,” he concluded.
