Hyderabad, Nov 6 (NationPress) The campaign for the by-election in Telangana's Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency has reached a climactic point as major political players, including Congress, BRS, and BJP, intensify their efforts to secure victory for their respective candidates.
With only three days remaining for official campaigning to conclude, high-ranking officials from all three parties are actively engaging with voters door-to-door.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is spearheading the ruling party's campaign by addressing corner meetings and organizing road shows, while numerous ministers are involved in direct outreach.
Leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are also fully mobilized, holding rallies and conducting road shows to rally support for their candidates.
The BRS campaign is being led by the party’s Working President, K.T. Rama Rao, who has the backing of several influential party figures.
Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, along with state BJP chief Ramchander Rao and other MPs and MLAs, are engaged in a vigorous campaign.
While addressing election rallies, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has accused both the BRS and BJP of having a covert alliance, suggesting that the BJP is providing support to the BRS during this by-election.
He is emphasizing the welfare initiatives introduced by his administration, criticizing the BRS for the stagnation in development in Jubilee Hills during its decade-long tenure.
Conversely, the BRS is promoting the developmental projects initiated in Hyderabad during its governance.
The BRS and BJP are simultaneously targeting Congress over what they describe as unfulfilled promises and inadequate development in the last two years.
A triangular contest is anticipated in this constituency, which falls under the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy.
This by-election is necessitated by the demise of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath of the BRS in June. The BRS has nominated his wife, Maganti Sunitha, as its candidate.
The Congress party has put forth Naveen Yadav, a previous candidate from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), with support from Asaduddin Owaisi’s party.
Meanwhile, the BJP has re-nominated Lankala Deepak Reddy, who secured third place in the 2023 elections.
Gopinath had previously achieved a hat-trick in 2023, defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Azharuddin from Congress, by over 16,000 votes.
Although Azharuddin expressed interest in contesting from his home constituency again, the Congress leadership opted to nominate him to the Legislative Council instead.
Azharuddin was inducted into the Telangana Cabinet last week, taking on the portfolio of minorities welfare and public enterprises.
He is actively campaigning for the Congress candidate.
A total of 58 candidates are contesting, but the main competition lies among the three parties.
According to Hyderabad District Election Officer R. V. Karnan, there are 401,365 voters in the constituency — comprising 208,561 men and 192,779 women.
With 58 candidates in the race, each polling booth will utilize four ballot units and one VVPAT.
