Patna, April 11 (NationPress) In a major turn of events, the Bihar Special Task Force (STF), in collaboration with the Patna Police, executed raids at the properties of RJD MLA Ritlal Yadav on Friday as part of an investigation into an extortion case.
The authorities disclosed that they seized Rs 10.50 lakh in cash, blank cheques amounting to Rs 77.50 lakh, and five official stamps during the operation.
The stamps are currently being examined to assess their potential use and authenticity.
“A complaint was filed against Ritlal Yadav and his associates for extortion demands. This led to the raid on his premises located in the Danapur area on Friday,” stated Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Danapur, Bhanu Pratap Singh, who oversaw the operation.
He confirmed the recovery of cash and blank cheques from the MLA’s residence in Danapur.
Ritlal Yadav has a well-documented criminal history. According to his 2020 election affidavit, there are 33 criminal cases lodged against him, including one concerning the 2003 murder of BJP leader Satyanarayan Sinha in Danapur.
Notably, the late leader’s wife, Asha Sinha, later secured the seat as a BJP candidate.
Yadav’s political career commenced in 2010, gaining traction after joining Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
He initially achieved electoral success as an MLC in 2016, before winning the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections from the Danapur constituency.
The raid and the nature of the items discovered are expected to heighten political tensions in Bihar. The ruling BJP and JDU may leverage this situation to challenge the law-and-order scenario and the ongoing support of RJD for politicians with dubious records.
Ritlal Yadav enjoys popularity within the Danapur Assembly constituency, particularly among the Yadav community.
This constituency also has a notable Muslim demographic, which contributed to Ritlal Yadav's success in the 2020 Assembly elections.
With Assembly elections approaching and RJD positioning itself as a central opposition force, this incident could have broader political ramifications—both legally and electorally.
