Ujjain, March 17 (NationPress) The Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Patel, alongside Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, inaugurated the groundwork for a multitude of development initiatives associated with the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028 in Ujjain on Tuesday.
With an estimated investment of Rs 662.46 crore, these initiatives are being executed by the Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) as part of several urban enhancement schemes. Key projects include the establishment of a new township and enhancements to the water supply and sewage systems.
In preparation for the Simhastha event, the UDA is set to develop a township encompassing 473.32 hectares across the villages of Neemanwasa, Dhatarawda, and Lalpur. The project entails constructing approximately 35 kilometers of concrete roads, measuring 24-metre and 30-metre in width, alongside sewer lines, water supply networks, underground electrification, street lighting, and related infrastructure. The township alone is projected to incur a cost of Rs 160.39 crore, as stated in an official release.
Moreover, a dedicated Simhastha Mela Office will be built at a budget of Rs 29.84 crore to aid in planning and coordination during the festival. This proposed G+1 facility, covering roughly 63,000 square feet, will feature an Integrated Command and Control Centre for effective monitoring and management of arrangements.
Additionally, the Governor and Chief Minister laid the cornerstone for a new Gita Bhawan in Ujjain, estimated to cost Rs 77 crore. This complex will house a 12,700 square feet auditorium and an e-library spanning 3,600 square feet.
The state government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, has allocated Rs 3,060 crore in the 2026–27 budget for preparations concerning Simhastha 2028.
In previous discussions with the Union Finance Minister in New Delhi, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav addressed the state’s financial standing, identified development priorities, and sought fiscal support. This dialogue also encompassed funding necessities for Simhastha-related projects and other significant endeavors.
Additionally, the state administration has declared intentions to allow saints, seers, and religious leaders to establish permanent ashrams in Ujjain, similar to the arrangements in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
