Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (NationPress) Prominent Congress figure and MP Adoor Prakash, on Saturday, made significant allegations against the CPI-M Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas, calling for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry into the purported ties between Brittas and the primary suspect in the Sabarimala gold theft case, Unnikrishnan Potti.
Prakash asserted that Potti and Brittas maintained regular communication, indicating that their relationship necessitated an independent investigation.
According to the Congress MP, call records suggest that Potti and Brittas had multiple conversations.
He urged the SIT to review all call detail records between them to determine the nature and purpose of their interactions.
"A thorough review of their phone conversations is essential," he stressed, emphasizing the need for transparency in this matter of public interest.
Prakash, who also leads the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), addressed questions regarding Potti's meeting with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, which has attracted political scrutiny.
He clarified that Potti visited Sonia Gandhi to present 'prasadam' and had secured prior permission for the meeting.
However, Prakash mentioned he was unaware of who arranged the appointment.
He added that upon arriving in Delhi, Potti had asked him the day before to join him for the meeting.
Prakash stated that he agreed to accompany Potti solely because the latter was a voter from his Lok Sabha constituency.
He reiterated that he had no prior knowledge of Potti's criminal background.
"I was not aware that Potti was involved in serious criminal activities," Prakash stated, attempting to dissociate himself from any controversy surrounding the individual.
The Congress Lok Sabha MP has responded after a period of silence and expressed frustration when Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan repeatedly referenced Sonia Gandhi's meeting with Potti alongside Prakash.
Notably, journalist-turned-politician Brittas is recognized as a close associate of Chief Minister Vijayan.
