Guwahati, Jan 13 (NationPress) The passing of renowned Assamese singer Samar Hazarika, the younger brother of the legendary cultural figure Bhupen Hazarika, has led to an outpouring of condolences, casting a shadow over the state during the Uruka celebrations, marking the eve of Magh Bihu.

According to family reports, Samar Hazarika departed this life at his home in Nijorapara, Guwahati, around 8:45 a.m. after suffering from a long illness.

Previously, he had received treatment at a private hospital in the city but was discharged just a few days prior.

Expressing his sorrow on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of veteran singer Shri Samar Hazarika. His enchanting voice brought joy to every event, and his contributions to Assam's cultural landscape are unforgettable. He continued the esteemed legacy of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and played a vital role in commemorating his birth centenary."

"With his departure, Assam has lost another remarkable voice. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and fans during this difficult time. Om Shanti," CM Sarma shared alongside a photo of the late singer with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In addition, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remarked, "I am profoundly saddened by the news of the illustrious singer Samar Hazarika's passing on the morning of the Uruka festival. His vibrant contributions to culture will be remembered for his heartfelt voice that touched the hearts of countless listeners. I extend my condolences to the grieving families."
