New Delhi, Sep 18 (NationPress) Businessman Samir Modi was apprehended at the airport on Thursday due to a Look-Out Circular (LOC) issued by the Delhi Police.
Modi was in the process of returning to India after a business engagement in Europe when he was detained.
Samir Modi, sibling of Lalit Modi, appeared before a Delhi court, which subsequently placed him under police custody for one day.
A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged last week at the New Friends Colony Police Station, prompted by a complaint from a woman who claimed to have been in a long-term relationship with Modi since 2019.
In an official statement, Modi’s lawyer labeled the allegations as “false and concocted” and asserted that they were aimed at extorting money from him.
“Notably, on August 8 and August 13, 2025, Samir Modi had filed complaints with various law enforcement officials regarding extortion and blackmail by the same woman, backed by WhatsApp conversations in which she demanded ₹50 crores,” the statement detailed.
The statement further condemned the police actions as rash, asserting: “This is a clear instance of misuse of legal provisions and the police's hurried actions in making an arrest without validating the facts. Samir Modi had met with the investigating officer concerning this previous case before traveling abroad, and he was arbitrarily arrested upon his return to India.”
The statement emphasized the alleged fraudulent nature of the complaint, stating: “A thorough examination of the purported complaint will instantly reveal these claims of extremely serious offenses to be wild and scurrilous tales. The accusations pertain to events purportedly starting four years ago and persisting since then, which itself raises questions regarding the origins and motives of the complaint and the complainant.”
“According to the complainant’s own account of events, the alleged encounters took place in public venues, restaurants, commercial offices, and residences. The complainant's intentions cannot be dismissed as anything other than malafide and lacking any truth in the allegations,” it continued.
Modi, who is embroiled in several business-related legal disputes, is portrayed in the statement as “a respectable businessman (who)… possesses full confidence in the judiciary of our nation and the agencies that will not only investigate but also swiftly resolve this matter.”
