New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) The Delhi Police have apprehended a 38-year-old individual for allegedly misappropriating more than Rs 17.65 lakh from his workplace. The suspect, named Sandeep Kumar Singh, is a resident of Harsh Vihar and originally hails from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was detained near Gagan Cinema in East Delhi less than 24 hours after a complaint was lodged.
As per police reports, Singh had been employed for over 15 years at Chemical Centre, located in the Rama Road Industrial Area, Moti Nagar. On October 3, he was given Rs 18,25,500 in cash to deliver to his employer's brother in Ashok Vihar. However, he never reached the destination and soon vanished. His mobile phone was subsequently discovered to be turned off.
The complaint was filed by the employer, Ajay Satija, who resides in DLF Phase-1, Gurugram, on October 6 at the Moti Nagar Police Station.
A case was registered under FIR No. 464/25, Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), prompting an immediate investigation.
Inspector Varun Dalal led a team at the Moti Nagar Police Station in Delhi, supervised by ACP Shivam from Punjabi Bagh Sub-Division, including ASI Deepak Saini, ASI Rajender, and Head Constables Pawan and Rajender, to locate the suspect.
The team first executed raids in Singh’s native village in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, before identifying his location in Harsh Vihar, Delhi. Acting on local intelligence, the police arrested him near Gagan Cinema.
Upon questioning, Singh admitted to the embezzlement and disclosed that he had concealed the stolen funds in a black bag at his residence. A total of Rs 17,65,500 in cash was recovered from his home.
A press release from Darade Sharad Bhaskar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West District, stated, “Thanks to the prompt actions of the police, nearly the entire embezzled amount was retrieved, and the suspect was arrested within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged.”
The investigation is ongoing.
